'Man Of The Age' From A Doctor's Point Of View
A study of the effect of sadhaks on Pujya SwamiJi's physical body
Dr. Hetal Acharya Porbandar
(Published in April/May/June 2009 issue of Madhuchaitanya)

A Request: In my capacity as a doctor, I am placing before you in simple words the medical truths which have emerged after a short study of the effect of sadhaks on the Pujya Swamiji's physical body, so that there is an awakening in all of us sadhaks about which important facts we should keep in mind in order to get the maximum benefit of Pujya Swamiji's proximity.

Up to now we have been travelling through several births with the inspiration of the universal consciousness and we have reached a halting place from where we don't need to go anywhere further. This is the final halting place for all of us- ¬contact of our soul with the living Satguru! The living Guru is a place which can be our final halt if we recognise him; and if we don't recognise him, then he is only a physical body (for us). All of us feel that our beloved Pujya Swamiji from whom we have received inner-experience is just like us. He interacts like us and therefore everyone feels a sense of belonging, that he is ours. But just think for a little -can an ordinary person appear just like ourselves to millions of people? If we take our own example, then to how many people do we appear just like themselves, close to them? We often appear good to some people and bad to some people. But do we appear the same to everyone? Just think! What is the Energy behind Pujya Gurudev?

There is a deep relationship between spirituality and sensitivity. The higher the spiritual level, the greater will be the sensitivity. We can understand sensitivity through the example of a new¬born baby. People are not allowed to touch the baby to keep it safe from sickness. The aura of little children is pure, holy and clear and therefore more sensitivity is present. Similarly, Pujya Swamiji's aura is extremely pure, holy, and clear, which is an indication of his high spiritual level. That's why one is aware of a child-like simplicity in his nature. But his sensitivity is also growing day by day together with his aura. Even a single negative thought like antagonism between sadhaks, fights, prejudices, hatred, etc immediately affects his sensitive body. When two sadhaks cause pain to each other, then it hurts Swamiji doubly because a part of Swamiji is present in every sadhak; Pujya Swamiji is our mother. If any sadhak becomes egoistic under any circumstances, or if a sadhak feels guilt and self-disgust then it is Swamiji who has to balance him. Thus the purification of negative energy that is created by negative feelings takes place through the medium of Pujya Gurudev, even if the sadhak is far away or nearby.

But the direct effect of negative energy that is created as a result of the feelings of post-holders/sadhaks who perform karya close to Pujya Swamiji's physical body is felt on his extremely sensitive body. They go before Swamiji with an aura of negative energy and polluted thoughts, and then that energy is transferred to Pujya Gurudev's aura and purified in the pipe that is his body. It is the Law of Physics that matter is never destroyed but only transformed. Similarly, the negative energy of sadhaks is directly transferred to Pujya Swamiji's physical body. All this happens and as a result the muscles, especially those of his legs harden and become knotted and this takes a long time to be cured. The sacral plexus of the legs, the sciatic nerve, and blood circulation are badly affected and in future the ligaments and capacity of the legs to function can be doubtful.

Effect on the cells and organs: The constant purification of any kind of negative energy that is created can also affect Pujya Gurudev's organs. The inner process of the organs becomes imbalanced and the process of their decay instantly commences. The result is that they begin to age very fast. The body gets swollen, heat is created, and it takes very long to remove this heat. The heat that is constantly created results in fever, indigestion, disturbance in the process of metabolism, constipation, stress, uneasiness, and endocrinal changes; and these are directly connected to the process of aging. One realises this after looking at Pujya Swamiji's hair, white beard and moustache, and dry and wrinkled skin. When so much change is visible in his age due to external influences -he looks so old -the internal changes are definitely not good.

The aging effect that is generally seen in ordinary persons is due to polluted thoughts. If we remain in a thoughtless state and are connected to the universal consciousness, that is if we remain in a state of meditation, then our organs can never move towards the aging process. That's why the physical bodies of yogis in a meditative state do not ever age or decay. Those yogis can live long and remain young in a meditative state and continue with their devotional practice for a long time. Similarly, Pujya Swamiji also remains in a high meditative state for all the 24 hours. Therefore he can never feel the effect of age due to internal reasons. What is affecting him is the external polluted energy of polluted thoughts. We can clearly notice the difference if we look at Pujya Swamiji's photograph of the time when he came into society and compare it with his recent photograph.

Our duty as sadhaks: We should have good and close relations with each other. There is a part of Swamiji in every sadhak. One should get darshan of Gurudev in other sadhaks. We have come to Samarpan meditation for our spiritual progress, then why have strife, conflicts etc? And just as Pujya Swamiji has said ¬if the other sadhak does not understand and is doing all this, you should remain calm and quiet -don't descend to a lower level! After a short while that sadhak will definitely realise his mistake. All the sadhaks must remember that they should not approach Pujya Swamiji's pure and clean aura, and extremely sensitive body with such negative energy (of quarrels, disputes, etc).

Observing the pulse rate: The following result was observed after examining Pujya Swamiji's pulse rate -his pulse rate in general, under normal circumstances is wonderfully balanced and the 3 humours ofthe body, namely phlegm, bile and wind (vata, pitta, kaf) are in the same state. However, there is a drastic change during some programmes from a good state of his pulse to a bad state, due to sadhaks who work for it and sadhaks who are attending it; and generally the pulse is affected by wind or bile. The pulse rate increases, it's rhythm is disturbed, and there is increased stress which are all indicative of a serious inner-change. Then in an instant the pulse rate returns to normal after Swamiji reaches a high meditative state. But as long as Swamiji continues to balance the sadhaks, the sharp changes in the pulse also continue to take place. This constant change in the pulse rate is generally not good for one's health. Swamiji has to go down to the level of sadhaks from a very high state in order to balance them; and for how many days do we as sadhaks maintain this balance after so much trouble and hard work by Swamiji?

Our duty as sadhaks: We should meditate regularly at the centre before attending programmes. We should come for the programme with a calm and peaceful mind, and also leave with a calm and peaceful mind. After the programme also we should be alert about keeping our chitta pure and maintain the consciousness that we have received from Pujya Gurudev.

Diet: Guru-karya is a sacred karya which happens due to Guru's grace. The purity of your diet, thoughts and chitta are very important in this holy Guru-karya. Sadhaks who come in contact with Swamiji's physical body because of Guru¬karya must be especially careful about their purity because the wrong diet and eating habits of people in their house or people in their work area pollutes their aura; and when they go before Swamiji with such an aura, it directly affects Pujya Swamiji's physical body. For example, if we or the people around us eat meat or drink alcohol or have any vices, then Swamiji is affected by the bad energy. If we understand this from a scientific or medical point of view, then as Pujya Swamiji has informed us in his discourses, the liver heats up due to excessive thoughts. Thinking too much and eating spicy, pungent and fried food has a bad effect on one's liver. As a result of a sudden increase in the metabolism of the liver, heat increases in the body. If you touch your liver 3 or 4 hours after eating oily and spicy food, you'll feel the heat; whereas the liver feels cold after meditating. When we meditate after eating oily and spicy food, then the heat of our liver is continuo, usly transmitted to Swamiji because our chitta is on Pujya Swamiji's physical body whilst meditating and not on Swamiji's subtle body. As a result the cells of his liver are damaged and this in turn badly affects his digestion and metabolism.

Our duty as sadhaks: Before going to meet Swamiji we should examine our own state. We should go only after we achieve physical purity, good diet, purity of mind, peaceful thoughts, and purity of the chitta. Before going to meet Swamiji we should eat vegetarian food at least a week in advance, a balanced diet, have a thoughtless state, regular meditation, listen to discourses and have a good aura purified through introspection. Even if we don't meet Swamiji personally, sadhaks who perform Guru-karya should be aware of the importance of their pure chitta. Pujya Swamiji energizes us when we perform any Guru-karya and it is our duty to preserve the consciousness.

A true lover always feels happy in the happiness of his beloved. If Swamiji is troubled due to our happiness, then that is selfishness! For example, we carry some eatables or gifts for Swamiji when we go to meet him. Swamiji sees our feelings and happily accepts them. But we should not insist that Swamiji should eat it in front of us.

Swamiji had said during the Gurupoornima celebrations at Navsari, "A strong wrestler can defeat everyone. But if someone who is close to him injects him with poison then even that weak individual without any strength can harm him or even kill him. The wrestler can fight against an external enemy, but he can't save himself from the internal poison." Swamiji has a very vast aura. When we sadhaks are present in his aura and bow before his physical body, then the poison of the faults of thousands of sadhaks is unknowingly transferred to Swamiji's physical body through the medium of the aura. It is this state that causes damage to his physical body.

Swami Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Shree Raman Maharshi, Shree Sai Saba of Shirdi -these are examples of saints in the recent past who had a strong and beautiful aura -but they died due to some disease. The reason was -their sadhaks' bowing before their physical bodies. Shree Ramakrishna's wife Ma Sharada has also written in a book of hers -'Whenever some wicked person (a person with a bad aura) bows before me, my hands and feet start burning; I can't sleep the whole night." What this signifies is that right from ancient times the saints would suffer when sadhaks bowed before them but they continued to suffer it.

Our duty as sadhaks: We must never do Namaskar to Swamiji's physical body; we should do Namaskar instead to the subtle Energies after Swamiji leaves the stage. We can receive the same energy even without bowing before the physical body because Energies are ever-present.

Together with Pujya Swamiji's high spiritual level and sensitivity which are increasing day by day, he also has to face various extensions of karya -like the books 'Samarpan Yog of the Himalayas' and 'Spiritual Truth' -which have been written by Pujya Gurudev with inspiration from the Guru-energies. These books have been written at extremely high speed due to the pressure of vibrations of Energy he receives in a high meditative state. Hardness, swelling and pain were also found in Swamiji's right shoulder joint as a result. This condition became even more unbearable after writing 3 to 4 books one after another; but Swamiji was not even aware of the pain whilst writing the books in a high meditative state. But the result was that later the pain and problem in the right shoulder joint continued to increase and it took a long time for it to heal.

Our duty as sadhaks: Pujya Swamiji is bearing this pain. It would be so good if we sadhaks also become aware of the pain which Swamiji is suffering for our benefit and become good conductors of our spiritual progress.

Actually, we are not at all aware of the identity of our Guru whose proximity we are receiving. In 'Samarpan Yog of the Himalayas' (part 1) Pujya Swamiji's Gurudev had told him, "You are a 'Man of the Age' because a spiritual age will end with your life. You will become the director of a great spiritual revolution." We know 'Men of the Age' of the past and believe in them; but we haven't recognised the 'Man of the Age' of present time. Therefore to accept him as one, is a distant reality. And how do we behave before him? Is our behaviour befitting the behaviour required for a 'Man of the Age'?

So many Gurus, ascetics, and sages have sacrificed their lives! Then after 800 years we have received this legacy in the form of Samarpan meditation. Pujya Gurudev is not just a physical body; he is the medium of an 800 years old enormous heritage of the flow of consciousness! It is imperative that we internalize his proximity as much 'as possible. Gurudev is revered by everyone -millions of sadhaks have accepted him (as their Guru). If we inform the next generation that we have received Swamiji's proximity for this much period of time, they will always expect us to have a high spiritual level. But if our spiritual level is not good, then we'll feel guilt and self-disgust; and the future generation will also not forgive us because Swamiji bore such pain for us sadhaks and we didn't preserve that consciousness, nor did we increase it!! Forget about others, will our own soul be able to forgive us? Now everything is in the hands of sadhaks-to make the idea of a beautiful, balanced world a reality, or to act as a barrier not only for others but for oneself as well!

It has also been written in 'Samarpan Yog of the Himalayas' that -a process is continuously in progress through the Guru's physical body -that of purification of the disciple's chitta. The Guru always absorbs the pollution in the disciple's chitta and heat is received in the Guru's body through the polluted chitta and this heat can be experienced in the soles of the Guru's feet. Therefore it is the duty of the disciple to help his Guru in removing the heat and faults which have reached his physical body.

Our duty as sadhaks: It is our duty that we purify our chitta on our own so that it will not cause problems for Gurudev.

Several sadhaks often think, "I was not allowed to meet Swamiji," and they give up meditation and move away. Keeping the fact in mind that the organization is growing, it is not possible for Swamiji to meet people individually. Therefore sadhaks are requested to let go of their attraction for his physical body. Pujya Swamiji has said everything in his discourses; therefore you won't receive anything after going to him. It is better if we get connected to the subtle Energies which are eternal. It is but natural that when permission is not given for a personal meeting, we can't go there without prior permission because a person suddenly coming into Swamiji's aura can also be the cause of his problems.

We should keep all these things in mind even in connection with our Dear, Respected Guruma. That is also equally important because both Pujya Gurudev and Pujya Guruma are the same, aren't they?

If someone has been hurt after reading this article they should forgive me because this article is not directed at any particular individual, it has been written for everyone. In my capacity as a doctor I have written this article for my own peace of mind after examining Swamiji. I have placed the real situation before sadhaks and performed my duty. Now everything is in your hands. As a doctor and a sadhak I ask all of you for your personal and loving co-operation. Come! Let us all try collectively with inner feeling so that Pujya Gurudev's proximity can be maintained for a long time to come and he remains happy.
